Pottery Wheel Types

There are different types of pottery wheels to meet the needs for the type of art you will be creating. These wheels have various sizes, cost and durability.

  1. Budget

    • Budget pottery wheels are smaller, not as powerful and not as durable as other pottery wheels. However, these are a good choice for beginners, and the price is significantly lower than the standard wheels, costing around $500.

    Standard

    • Standard pottery wheels are very durable, have quiet motors, more power and smoother operations. These are good for both home and studio use. Prices are around $700.

    Heavy Duty

    • The heavy duty pottery wheels are made to throw a lot of clay and have maximum power capabilities. They are for professional use and include features and options not available on a budget or standard model. Heavy duty pottery wheels begin around $1,200.

    Portable

    • Portable pottery wheels can also be used as a beginner wheel for children, because they are so much smaller than budget and standard models. However, they are perfect for travel because of their size and weight. Portable wheels cost around $350.

    Kick Wheels

    • A kick wheel is a motorless pottery wheel. You use your feet to keep the pottery wheel moving. These are very heavy and their prices begin around $600.
