Emcee Duties at a Wedding

The emcee has a very big responsibility at the wedding reception. He is the one who ensures all goes according to plan, including the throwing of the bouquet, the couple's first dance and speeches.

Emcee is short for master of ceremonies. He is responsible for making sure the wedding reception goes as planned. The person chosen to emcee a reception is usually a relative or close friend but can also be professionally hired.

The emcee announces when certain events are about to take place such as when someone is going to make a speech or when the bride is going to throw her bouquet. He also announces when the bride and groom arrive, and might give a speech.

If you are given the duties of being an emcee, you should talk to the wedding planner and make sure you know what is expected. Get a copy of the agenda so you know what is happening at all times, who is involved and how each event will last.

The emcee should never take center stage. The emcee is there to orchestrate the reception, but the spotlight should always be on the bride and groom.
