Weird Anxiety Symptoms

Increases in anxiety or having a panic attack can lead to some unusual symptoms. This may lead the individual to believe that another medical problem is being experienced, such as a heart attack. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to consult your physician, since it may be a sign of a more serious problem.

  1. Taste / Smell

    • Changes in taste and/or smell can occur during a panic attack or an increase in anxiety. This taste is commonly a "metallic" taste but varies between individuals. It cannot be explained by something that was previously eaten or something present in the environment.

    Tongue Sensations

    • An increase in anxiety or a panic attack can cause an odd tongue sensation, such as a "pins and needles" or "burning" sensation.

    Vision Changes

    • Seeing stars, flashing lights or having other vision changes can be experienced during periods of increased anxiety or during a panic attack.

    Hearing

    • Hearing changes can occur as a result of an increase in anxiety or a panic attack. These changes include hearing a ringing sound, humming, throbbing or a buzzing sound, but can include other sounds that cannot be explained by the environment.

    Sensations on Scalp

    • Shooting pains or soreness of the scalp can be experienced during an increase in anxiety or a panic attack. Scalp can also feel like it is burning.

    Allergies

    • Poorly-managed stress can lead to overall poor health, including allergies becoming worse or more frequent.
