Founded by Henry Wells and William Fargo to offer banking and express services, the company today serves consumers at more than 9,000 locations.

In 2014, Wells Fargo held $1.5 trillion in assets -- fourth among U.S. banks -- but ranked first in the world in value based on market capitalization. John G. Stumpf, chairperson, president and CEO of the company, leads a group of 12 executive vice presidents. In addition, the company employees more than 265,000 individuals in 36 countries and serves 70 million customers worldwide. At the end of the first quarter in 2014, Wells Fargo's stock capitalization was valued at $262 billion. It trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol WFC.
