One of the primary results of sinus congestion is drainage. Sinus drainage is expelled in two basic ways: through the nose and the back of the throat. When sinus drainage is expelled in back of the throat, it is referred to as postnasal drip and can cause stomach discomfort.
As the sinuses drain into the back of the throat, the mucus makes its way to the stomach causing an upset stomach. The stomach naturally has a small amount of mucus in it, but does not respond well to an excessive amount.

In order to prevent stomach issues from sinus drainage, eat a piece of dry toast when you first wake up to soak up the excess mucus. Drink hot tea or coffee to coat the stomach and help move the mucus along.
If you find that you have sinus drainage for more than 14 days, you should see a doctor to decide if you should take a daily antihistamine to avoid sinus drainage. Your doctor may also recommend other prescription drugs to get the condition under control.
