Information on Death Records
Death records, or death certificates, are official public documents that record a person has died and includes the decedent's vital statistics and cause of death. Though each state has its own format, death records tend to include the same information.

Basic Information on the Decedent

Death records provide the decedent's basic information, generally including:
--Full name
--Sex
--Death date
--Age at death
--Location of death
--Birthdate
--Birthplace
--Military activity
--Marital Status
--Surviving family
--Occupation
--Address
--Race
Ancestry

The death record will also include the names and birth locations of the decedent's mother and father.

Informant

The name and address of the individual providing the information for the death record is also included.
Disposition

The record will indicate the disposition of the body (burial, cremation, removal from state or donation) and the location of disposition.
Cause of Death

The date and time of death, manner of death (natural, homicide, suicide, accident) and the immediate cause and any underlying causes of death will also be listed.
Certifier

The physician, nurse or coroner who declared the death will provide her contact information.
