Ear Pain Caused by Hearing Aid

Hearing aids should fit comfortably for the entire time you wear them. Ideally, the hearing aids should fit so well that you forget you are wearing them. So if it hurts, get it fixed.

Cause

Physical pain and discomfort often occurs if the hearing aid fits too snugly in your ear. Usually a sore spot will develop in the area where the hearing aid puts pressure on your ear.

Treatment

Your hearing care professional will adjust the fit of your hearing aid by modifying the size of the shell, dome, tubing or wiring. If you have a custom hearing aid, your audiologist may take a new impression of your ear to remake the shell.

Your ear will not "get used to the hearing aid" if it is too big.

Do not try to adjust the shell, dome, tubing, wiring or other parts of the hearing aid yourself.
