Classroom Discipline Problems

Classroom discipline problems are often initiated by one or two students, but have the potential to affect all of the children's education by disrupting the class so it is important to handle it promptly.

  1. Fidgeting Students

    • Some students may be unable to sit still. Make the student aware of their fidgeting, create a behavior modification chart, use a timer to encourage students to stay focused, keep activities short and praise improved behavior.

    Aggressive Students

    • Students may have personality conflicts with other classmates or may lash out when frustrated. Be attuned to their body language and verbal tones before they react physically and respond to them calmly by giving them a choice to orally resolve the issue or leave the class.

    Lazy Students

    • It is easy to ignore lazy students because they are not disruptive. Provide consequences for not doing work by requiring them to do it during recess may encourage better work habits.

    Chattering

    • Students may talk and disrupt class by wasting valuable time. Try to redirect the conversation to the lesson or use eye contact or close proximity to stop the chattering.

    Constant Lateness

    • Some students may disrupt the class by arriving late so have a clear policy requiring a late pass.
