Types of Fake Nails

Women who like long, well-shaped nails often get artificial nails applied to their natural fingernails. There are a various types of fake nails to suit any woman's style and personal taste.

Acrylic Nails

Acrylics are the most commonly used type of fake nails due to their strength and durability. Acrylic fingernails consist of a monomer, which is a liquid acrylic, and a polymer, which is a powdered acrylic.

Gel Nails

Gel nails require a Mylar form be sculpted to the nail and then cured under ultraviolet lights. While gel nails are more natural looking than other types of fake nails, they are also less durable.

Solar Nails

Solar nails are typically pink or white acrylic nails that look similar to a French manicure. Solar nails need to be refilled every three weeks.

Wrap Nails

Wrap nails typically involve pieces of fiberglass, silk or linen being glued to the natural nails. Wrap nails are smooth and thin, but aren't appropriate for active females because they break very easily.

Considerations

Fake nails are typically longer-lasting and more durable than natural nails. Artificial nails are also more expensive to maintain and can damage the natural nails if not done properly.
