Aqua Detox Foot Spa
The Aqua Detox Foot Spa claims to heal damages to our cells caused by free radicals and toxins by rebalancing the positive/negative ion distribution around the cell. Its proponents boast many positive benefits, but its critics claim it's nothing more than an eccentric scam. Does this Spark an idea?

Significance
-
The process of the Detox Foot Spa or "ionic foot bath" is based on osmosis. An ionator in the water releases ions into the foot bath. The positive and negative ions are absorbed through the pores in your feet. This energizes your cells, encouraging them to let go of oil, fat, heavy metals and other toxins that have built up over the years.
Function
-
Your cells release these toxins (osmosis again) via your feet and back into the water. The water generally turns a rusty color, but sometimes it turns black, red or green. Manufacturers claim that the color determines where you are keeping toxins (e.g. black for liver, orange for joints, green for gall bladder, yellow-green for kidneys, bladder, urinary tract).

Possible Benefits
-
Aqua Detox manufacturers claim these benefits: a sense of mental calm/peacefulness, positive effects on weight loss, allergy relief, improved sleep, tension relief, stronger immune system, increased energy and increased oxygen levels.
Time Frame
-
The detox footbath takes approximately 30 minutes without any downtime after the treatment.
Speculations
-
Critics of the Aqua Detox say that the actual machines are simply AC/DC transformers with electrodes containing iron, which corrode and produce that rusty/brown color. The difference in water color is due to the amount of salt added to the water. Critics say the changing colors are used to impress users.
Warnings
-
Many websites claim that these detox spas will cure diseases such as AIDS and cancer. In researching the detox foot spa, there is an abundance of information claiming it to be a scam, but not one clinical test or trial, article or treatise from a reputable source proves or even suggests a benefit from the Aqua Detox Foot Spa.
The Aqua Detox Foot Spa is not FDA-approved.
