Side Effects of Sucralose

Sucralose, more commonly know by the product name Splenda, is an artificial sweetener that has been poised to replace sugar. It is advertised as a safe alternative to sugar, yet still there are some side effects to this product. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Craving

    • According to the International Food Information Council, sucralose is six hundred times sweeter than sugar. If someone uses the same amount of sucralose in his daily diet as he has previously with sugar, it could actually increase his cravings for sweets and lead to an addiction.

    Weight Loss

    • Sucralose is calorie-free, so by replacing the sugar in your diet with sucralose (Splenda) you could lose weight.

    Insulin

    • According to CalorieControl.org, sucralose has no effect on insulin levels or carbohydrate metabolism.

    Aches

    • According to the Sucralose Toxicity Information Center, there have been reports from individuals that Splenda causes muscle aches and headaches.

    Diarrhea

    • Some people have also complained that sucralose causes diarrhea and cramping in the intestines and stomach.
