Dog Ailments and Remedies
Dogs, just like humans, can develop health problems such as arthritis, digestion, and teeth and gum problems. By giving your canine pal a little preventative maintenance, you can help him to live a long and rewarding life.
-
Intestinal Worms
-
If your dog has tapeworms, which she can get from swallowing an infected flea, your vet may prescribe either an oral medication or give her an injection for removal of the parasite.
Skin and Coat Problems
-
If your dog gets hots spots, or eczema, try using compresses soaked in either peppermint extract, aloe vera gel or lavender essential oil to help relieve the itching.
-
Tooth and Gum Problems
-
To keep your dog's gums healthy and avoid dental problems, use a toothpaste recommended by your veterinarian and a soft-bristled brush to clean his teeth daily.
Pulled Muscles
-
Use a wet towel with several drops of the extract of arnica placed on it to reduce swelling. Adding a few drops of arnica extract to your dog's water can also provide relief.
Bones and Joints
-
To help prevent your dog from contracting painful arthritis, give her glucosamine sulfate tablets; for every 50 lbs. of body weight, give her 750mg of glucosamine sulfate.
Warning
-
Never give your dog home remedies for any ailments without first taking your canine friend to his veterinarian to discuss treatment options.
