Difference Between Skin Tags & Warts

Skin tags and warts are both small growths that appear on various parts of the body. It's not always easy for you to tell the difference between them.

  1. Skin Tags

    • These are small hanging pieces of skin that are usually irregular and bumpy in appearance with a fleshy color or darker skin color.

    Areas Affected by Skin Tags

    • Skin tags can appear anywhere on the body, especially in skin folds, such as in the armpit. They are benign and appear as you age.

    Warts

    • These are small white or red bumps that can either be raised or flat. Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus.

    Areas Affected by Warts

    • Warts usually appear on the hands, feet, and sometimes the face.

    Chances of Infection

    • Skin tags are not infectious. Warts are considered infectious, but most are not dangerous. However, genital warts, which may be associated with cervical cancer, should receive immediate treatment.
