Side Effects of Too Much Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an important part of the human diet. It helps the body take in calcium and phosphorus from the intestine and distribute it inside the bones. Vitamin D is taken in pill form, through dairy products, and people can get a daily dose out in the sun. Overdosing on Vitamin D is hard, but there are risk factors involved with too much exposure.

    • This vitamin is used in the body to prevent rickets and it's also known to treat hypoparathyroidism, psoriasis, and osteoporosis.

    • Those who have lupus, are pregnant or breast feeding should consult a doctor before taking vitamin D. The elderly and the very young are prone to having overdose problems.

    Symptoms

    • Symptoms of Vitamin D overdose (vitamin D toxicity) include nausea, weakness, nervousness, itching, and adominal cramps along with frequent urination. Taking too much of the vitamin can lead to kidney failure.

    • Vitamin D overdose symptoms are often mistaken for vitamin D hypersensitivity.
