Rare Symptoms of Ulcers

Ulcers are sores that form on the lining of the stomach, esophagus or small intestine. While the most common symptom of an ulcer is stomach pain, there can also be other, more rare symptoms.

  1. Vomiting

    • If your ulcer is severe, you may experience nausea and vomiting. In some cases you may vomit red or black blood.

    Bowel Movements

    • A severe ulcer can affect bowel movements. Stool may contain black blood or look black or tarry in texture.

    Physical Changes

    • You may weight loss because of a decrease in appetite.

    When to See a Doctor

    • Do not attempt to treat an ulcer on your own. Some medications offer relief, but ulcers require professional care.

    Common Symptoms

    • Sufferers often feel pain around their breastbone, which is worse during the night. This pain can last for a few minutes or up to several hours.
