Lorcet Side Effects

Lorcet is the brand name for the combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol). It may be prescribed for pain relief. Lorcet has serious side effects and should only be taken as prescribed.

  1. Function

    • Lorcet is used for moderate to severe pain management. It works in two ways. Hydrocodone binds to the opoid receptors in the brain and spine, and the acetaminophen decreases prostaglandins, thereby relieving pain.

    Effects

    • Side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, dizziness and vision and mood changes. More serious side effects are irregular breathing or heartbeat, and changes in urine output. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience serious side effects.

    Considerations

    • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how well you tolerate Lorcet.

    Warning

    • Lorcet contains acetaminophen, so should not be taken with alcoholic beverages. For those without liver problems, the maximum acetaminophen dose is 4000 mg a day. More than that amount can cause fatal liver complications.

    Potential

    • Lorcet contains hydrocodone, a narcotic pain reliever. It is subject to abuse, and users may become addicted.
