Law Enforcement Education
Law enforcement education covers more than police cadet training. While this is the backbone of police training, the recruit will be tested and investigated thoroughly. His training will continue upon graduation.

Law Enforement Education
-
Applicants to law enforcement education programs submit their applications several months before being contacted for further assessment. Applicants should ensure their application packets are complete and accurate.
Testing
-
Upon being contacted, future police cadets will undergo testing. This will include written and oral testing, as well as a test for physical agility.
-
Background Investigation
-
At the time of application, the background investigation was begun. This investigation will cover education, employment, credit history, driving record, encounters with the law, meeting former teachers, neighbors, landlords and family members.
Police Recruit Basic
-
Once in a law enforcement class, the police recruit basic (cadet) will take courses in police law enforcement. These include fundamentals of police work, community and policing, police procedures and a practicum in police work. Some community colleges offer law enforcement courses for the two-year degree. Upon graduation, some states will require further training at their law enforcement academy.
In Service Education
-
Police officers who are already on the force in their communities are expected to keep their education and training current with in-service education. Regular in-service education and training can contribute to better-trained police officers. Officers can receive certification based upon the topic and training received.
