Rose quartz is a pink to rose-red form of quartz crystal. Contamination by iron or titanium may be responsible for the stone's color. Some stones also contain darker rutile "needles."

    • Rose quartz is mined in many places around the world, including South Dakota and Brazil. Brazil is the largest supplier of rose quartz.

    Function

    • Rose quartz is used in jewelry and as a decorative element. It is also a common element in crystal healing. A small number of cosmetics contain a form of rose quartz.

    Metaphysical Uses

    • Rose quartz is one of the stones used to attract love in magic. In crystal healing, it represents love (both romantic and self-love) and healing the heart. It is one of the stones used in work with the heart chakra, as pink (along with green) is one of that chakra's colors.

    Cautions

    • A form of "micronized" (finely ground so that the particles are only a few micrometers long) rose quartz is used in some lipstick. According to CosmeticsDatabase.com, there may be health risks associated with the use of micronized rose quartz.
