Bee pollen is a complete food containing all the nutrients necessary for sustaining life. These nutrients include varying amounts of essential amino acids, all B vitamins, lecithin, trace minerals, iron, manganese, zinc, folic acid, enzymes, antioxidants, vitamins C and E, and flavanoids.

  1. What is It?

    • Bee pollen is the male seed of plants that is collected by the honeybee and carried to the hive where it, along with honey, comprises the complete diet of the hive.

    Benefits

    • Bee pollen inhibits or prevents the growth of harmful bacteria such as E-coli and can relieve constipation. Anecdotal evidence suggests bee pollen increases the efficacy of the immune system and decreases infections in elderly people.

    History

    • Bee pollen has been collected by man for thousands of years and has been used by healers to treat everything from skin conditions to heart ailments.

    Research

    • The British Royal Society of Naturalists has conducted experiments on mice that were kept alive and healthy for several generations while their sole source of nutrition was bee pollen.

    Fun Fact

    • So far, scientists have been unable to produce an effective synthetic bee pollen in the laboratory. While their synthetic appears to be identical to natural bee pollen, when fed to a colony of bees, all died within a week.
