Turtles are popular pets as they are relatively easy to care for and are not particularly messy, picky or smelly. Pet turtles can be divided into three main groups, aquatic or water turtles, semi-aquatic and land turtles.

    Sliders

  1. Red-eared sliders are water turtles and are the most commonly kept species of turtle. This turtle is extremely docile and makes a good pet.
  2. Mud Turtles

  3. Mud turtles are also kept as pets. Mud turtles are so named because they live in the soft mud of pond bottoms. This turtle requires mud in its enclosure to be happy.
  4. Reeve's Turtles

  5. Reeve's turtles are an Asian species and a small, yet extremely pretty turtle. They are vulnerable to infection and need to be kept in clean water.
  6. Box Turtles

  7. Box turtles are land turtles and are very popular as pets. A good outdoor set-up is best when caring for a land turtle.
  8. Wood Turtles

  9. The North American Wood turtle is another popular pet. It requires both a dry area for basking and a small pool of water for soaking. It is considered semi-aquatic.
