Giraffe Information

Giraffes are a most distinct animal because of their long necks and color patterns. These animals are found in zoos across America. They originate from Africa.

  1. Types

    • There are nine different species of giraffes. All live in different parts of Africa and have different colorings.

    Tongue

    • Many people who observe giraffes cannot help but notice their long tongue. Giraffes spend most of the day eating and use their 18-inch-long tongue to grab leaves.

    Head

    • A giraffe can pump 20 gallons of blood a minute from its body to head. This is necessary because of its long neck. A giraffe's heart can weigh up to 25 pounds.

    Food

    • Giraffes eat up to 75 pounds of food daily. Their favorite food is Acacia leaves, and food is digested through their four-chamber stomach.

    Water

    • Not only do giraffes eat a lot, but they drink a lot, too. A giraffe consumes 10 gallons of water a day through Acacia leaves or just drinking water.
