Information on Nose Piercings

Nostril piercings can convey to the world that you are a wife or, more simply, that you just like to wear a pretty piece of jewelry. From a simple silver hoop to a sparkling diamond, a nostril piercing gives you the chance to express yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Function

    • A nostril piercing is for adornment, religious reasons, a rite of passage or conveying marital status.

    Types

    • A captive bead ring or a nostril screw are the types of jewelry placed and worn in a nostril piercing, with a rainbow of colors and jewels available. Clear retainers are also available for hiding the piercing while at the workplace or school.

    Time Frame

    • If the jewelry is removed, the piercing will close and is considered temporary, leaving a small scar. When jewelry is always inserted, the piercing may be considered permanent, or lifelong lasting. A nostril piercing takes six months to a year to completely heal after the initial piercing.

    Size

    • A nostril piercing is performed with an 18- to 20-gauge needle followed by jewelry of the same size. After swelling from the initial piercing has decreased, a smaller piece of jewelry can be inserted.

    Famous Ties

    • Celebrities such as Christina Aguilera and Carson Daly wear nostril piercings.

    Warning

    • This procedure should only be performed by a professional body piercer who is college-level educated in anatomy and has certification in blood borne pathogens. Never attempt this piercing on yourself.
