Dog Urinary Tract Infection Symptoms
Urinary tract infections occur when bacteria overcomes your dog's immune system. This bacteria can be introduced to your dog's system by ingesting unclean food or water, or by blood.

Symptoms
-
While some infections show no symptoms at all, the most common symptoms seen with a urinary tract infection are trouble urinating, increased water consumption and blood in the urine.
Diagnosis
-
After a physical exam, your vet will perform a complete urinalysis and urine culture to determine the extent of its bacteria content.
-
Complications
-
In some cases, there are other factors at work that complicate a urinary tract infection. Bladder stones, a bladder tumor and prostate infection are all conditions that require special attention.
Treatment
-
Urinary tract infections can be effectively and easily treated with antibiotics. Most infections will be eliminated after about two weeks on the proper medication.
Prevention/Solution
-
To lower the chance of your dog developing a urinary tract infection, don't give any of the bacteria in his bladder a chance to multiply. Give him plenty of bathroom breaks, and provide fresh water at all times.
