Scrabble Facts
Scrabble came about as a variation of the game Lexikos. Although created in 1939 by Alfred Mosher Butts, Scrabble, originally called Criss-Crosswords, wasn't manufactured until 1948. James Brunot was the one who manufactured the board game and at first, it wasn't successful. However, once Macy's decided to carry it, sales improved.

The highest score on a first turn ever gotten is 128. This is for the word "muzjiks", which means "Russian peasant." The highest known single-word score is 392 points for the word "caziques," which means "Indian chief" or "American oriole." There are also 92 two-letter words that one can use in Scrabble, 10 of them just vowels.
