Harmful Ingredients in Soft Drinks

Soft drinks are anything but gentle on your health. Soft drinks play a key role in the American diet but most people are not aware of the health hazards that these drinks present. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Sugar

    • Juicing-for-health.com explains that soft drinks contain up to 15 tsp. of sugar content per 325 m can, which is more sugar than your body needs for an entire day. Sugar can be harmful as it rots teeth, increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease and indigestion.

    Artificial Sweetener

    • According to Juicing-for-health.com, diet pop is equipped with artificial sweeteners like aspartame, acesulfame-K, saccharin or sucralose. These sweeteners have a number of possible side effects: migraines, memory loss, heart complications, depression and increased cancer risk.

    Caffeine

    • Caffeine is used to increase the flavor in soft drinks, but it is also very addictive. Juicing-for-health.com says that caffeine stimulates the nervous system and increases the heart rate.

    Carbon Dioxide

    • Carbon dioxide makes soft drinks fizz but it is also a waste product. Humans naturally exhale carbon dioxide, but soft drinks put it back in the body. Excessive amounts of carbon dioxide kills healthy cells.

    Preservatives

    • Preservatives are put into soft drinks so that they last longer. However, Juicing-for-health.com explains that preservatives like sodium benzoate or sulfur dioxide can cause asthma, rashes, hyperactivity, fainting, shock, or a coma.

    Solution

    • Because there is no way to rid soft drinks at stores or restaurant, the best solution is to take responsibility for yourself. Rather than order soft drinks, try to get vegetable or fruit juices.
