Pomegranates Benefits

Inside each pomegranate are dozens of red seeds that resemble ruby jewels. Several studies are confirming that consuming these "rubies" are not only a tasty treat, but they also provide plenty of benefits to keep your body healthy.

  1. Cardiovascular Health

    • A study documented by Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that pomegranate juice effectively reduces plaque buildup and subsequent clogging of arteries, allowing overall improvement of blood flow to and from your heart. A separate study by Technion Institute in Israel confirms this finding.

    Coronary Heart Disease

    • American Journal of Cardiology published a study on patients who had been diagnosed with coronary heart disease. Study findings show that stress-induced ischemia was significantly lower in subjects who drank pomegranate juice daily for three consecutive months than those who drank a placebo during those months.

    Prostate Cancer

    • In 2005, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published study results concluding that daily consumption of pomegranate juice can slow the progression of prostate cancer. It does not cure the cancer entirely, but does actively work to help the body maintain low level of prostate specific antigen (PSA).

    Skin Care

    • Oils from pomegranate seeds are being implemented into skin care treatment products. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology, published by the University of Michigan Medical School, includes a study conducted in 2006 that documents evidence that these oils repair already prevalent skin damage as well as slow the aging of skin.

    Lowering Cholesterol

    • Pomegranates contain high amounts of antioxidants, which leads to the belief that eating pomegranates and drinking pomegranate juice will lower LDL cholesterol. Additional research is being done before official results are published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
