Information on Homeland Security
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is responsible for monitoring suspicious activity to keep the U.S. safe from terrorism. DHS facilitates cooperation within all levels of government to ensure the highest safety level possible for all U.S. citizens.

DHS was established after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S. The bill for the establishment of DHS was presented by Joseph Lieberman and Arlen Specter.
Counterterrorism

The primary job of DHS is to protect the U.S. from physical, biological and chemical terrorist attacks.

DHS oversees and maintains all border patrol stations in the U.S. The goal is to prevent individuals who might be dangerous from entering the country.
Threat

The threat level for the U.S. ranges from green (lowest threat) to red (highest threat). DHS is responsible for setting the threat level.
Cyberterrorism

DHS employs professionals to maintain the safety of federal computer networks. It also provides instructions for civilians about how to keep home computers safe.
