Eczema is a skin condition that is marked by inflammation of the skin. According to Eczema Net, 10 to 20 percent of the world's population is affected by a type of eczema called atopic dermatitis at one point in their life.

The Facts

There is no known cause for eczema, but it is believed to be an abnormal reaction by the immune system. Eczema usually creates a red, itchy rash that can appear on any part of the body.
Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common forms of eczema. Children are more prone to get atopic dermatitis than adults. This type of eczema can cause a rash that itches severely.

Contact Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is another common form of eczema. It stems from contact with everyday objects, such as shampoo, jewelry, food and water. Symptoms of contact dermatitis usually include itchy rashes, blisters and flaky skin.
Dyshidrotic Dermatitis

Dyshidrotic dermatitis is a common form of eczema that occurs only on the hands and feet. It causes a tingling, burning sensation and a blistering rash. Other names for dyshidrotic dermatitis are hand eczema, vesicular eczema, pompholyx and vesicular palmoplantar eczema.
Other Types of Eczema

Other, less common types of eczema include hand dermatitis, neurodermatitis, nummular dermatitis, occupational dermatitis, stasis dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis.
