Dixie League Baseball Rules
The National Dixie Youth Baseball league was first established in 1955 and is prominent throughout the southern part of the United States. Dixie Baseball is characterized by a high degree of local autonomy, although the organization mandates a handful of special rules.
-
Face Protection
-
All players in all age groups of Dixie Baseball are required to wear face masks on their batting helmets. These masks can be either a "grid" style, similar to the face masks worn by football players, or a clear visor, similar to those worn by hockey players.
Head-First Slides
-
Head-first slides into bases are disallowed in all divisions. Any base runner who slides into a base is automatically out.
-
Field Dimensions
-
Dixie Baseball's 13-and-up age division ("O" Zone) uses a field that is slightly smaller than an adult field. Bases are spaced 70 feet apart as opposed to 90 feet on adult fields, and the pitchers mound is 50 feet from home plate instead of 60. Home plate is also one inch smaller than normal.
Reentry
-
Players who have been taken out of the game may reenter, provided that they bat in their original lineup position.
Adult Base Coaches
-
An adult may coach either first or third base, but he is not permitted to change bases during the game. This rule is designed to discourage unsportsmanlike conduct.
