Myanmar is a country in southeast Asia. It is bordered by China, Laos, Thailand, Bangladesh and India. The country of Myanmar is currently ruled by a military junta.

    • Islam, Buddhism and Christianity are the main religions in the country.

    • Myanmar was known as Burma until 1989 when it was changed by the ruling military junta.

    Climate

    • Myanmar has three main seasons. Hot season lasts from March to May. Rainy season lasts from June to October. Cold season continues from November to February.

    Great Britain's Influence

    • Burma was occupied by the Japanese from 1942 until the British freed the country in 1945. The country gained its independence from Britain in 1948.

    Natural Resources

    • Myanmar's natural resources include: timber, zinc, copper, lead, coal, petroleum, timber, natural gas, tin and marble.

    People and Language

    • Myanmar ethnic make up includes over 100 ethnic groups. Many of these ethnic groups speak their own languages in addition to the national language of Myanmar.
