How Long Can a Ringworm Survive?
Ringworm is a very contagious skin infection caused by a fungus which can affect the body and scalp. The fungus grows best in moisture. It is common to have multiple ringworms on skin at the same time. Ringworm is passed on by touching skin, pets, and contaminated objects, such as combs or shower surfaces.

Time of Incubation
-
It can take four to 10 days for ringworm to appear on the body, and 10 to 14 days for ringworm to appear on the scalp, after you have come in contact with the ringworm fungus.
Length of Symptoms
-
The red, scaly, itchy patch of skin should fade within a few weeks of being treated, but it may take a few more weeks to completely get rid of the ringworm.
-
Duration of Ringworm
-
Within four weeks, ringworm should be gone if treated with over-the-counter topical agents. There is usually no need to see a doctor.
Resistance to Treatment
-
Ringworm can sometimes be severe or resist treatment which makes the infection last longer than four weeks. Call a doctor if this happens.
Special Circumstances
-
Ringworm fungus can be much harder to get rid of in people with weakened immune systems.
