Often referred to as a CT scan, CAT scans produce images that represent the interior sections of your body.

What it Stands For

CAT is short for computed axial tomography, and CT is short for computerized tomography. The names CAT and CT represent the same test.

Benefits

As opposed to other X-ray techniques that create a two-dimensional overlapping image, CAT scans generate three-dimensional images. This allows for a more clear understanding and perception of depth.

Rotating X-Ray Equipment

CAT scanners have a rotating X-ray machine that creates several cross-sectional images of a specific area of your body.

Computer Generator

Once all the images have been created by the X-ray machine, a computer compiles all the images together and generates the 3D image.

CAT scans can diagnose both muscle and bone disorders, locate tumors and infections, guide surgeons, detect internal injuries and even diseases.

Radiation Exposure

CAT scans briefly expose patients to radiation. Those who are pregnant, have asthma, allergies, or have any other distinct medical condition should inform their doctor before having a CAT scan done.
