- Jade plants are sun lovers. They need bright light and good air circulation. Jade plants grow well as container plants outside, but need to be brought indoors during the winter.
- Jade plants like to dry out between watering. Water when the soil is dry and the leaves begin to soften. Remove excess water from the tray, do not allow the roots to sit in standing water for more than a few hours. Over watering is a common problem with jade plants.
- Jade plants grow well in temperatures up to about 90 degrees F. Jade plants like cold nights but will be killed by freezing temperatures. Bring them indoors before the first frost.
- Jade plants need to be re-potted frequently. When the plant begins to be root bound, move to a larger pot with fresh soil and compost. A mixture of one part sand to two parts potting soil makes a good soil mix for jade plants.
- Provide fertilizer during the growing season from early spring to late fall. Use a low nitrogen liquid fertilizer mixed to about one fourth the recommended strength when watering.
