What Supplies Are Needed for Camping?
Preparation is imperative when heading into the great outdoors--having the necessary supplies will make or break your experience. Using this list as a starting point will give you a jump start on your next adventure. Keep in mind that your own list may vary according to the type of camping you will be doing, the length of your trip and the time of year.
-
The Basics
-
While packing your backpack, be sure to include a headlamp, compass, hiking maps, multi-tool, nylon cord, whistle and a cell phone. Take extra safety precautions by leaving your itinerary with an emergency contact back home.
Shelter
-
In addition to your tent, make sure you have a ground tarp and rain fly packed. If you are limited on space, leave behind a pillow and use your extra clothing stuffed inside the sleeping bag sack.
-
Kitchen
-
Keep your kitchen contained by using a nylon stuff sack. Include your cookware, dinnerware, can opener, biodegradable dish soap, water-proof matches, extra fuel and water purification tablets.
Personal Items
-
Pack clothing that is versatile and appropriate for the weather you may encounter. Don't forget a pair of comfortable shoes to wear at camp and extra socks.
First Aid
-
A first-aid kit and any needed medications should always accompany you when camping.
