Why Conduct a Job Evaluation?

There are a number of reasons to conduct a job evaluation. An evaluation is a way of keeping everyone involved, informed, regarding the work performance, for a particular individual. A performance evaluation provides a measurement for how effectively someone is performing his responsibilities.

  1. Employee Feedback

    • Job evaluations are used to keep an employee abreast of her job performance and how it compares to the stated goals and objectives set by the company.

    Corrective Measures

    • When employees receive job evaluations, they are normally presented with a plan of action that will improve their performance if they are not meeting the necessary goals and objectives.

    Motivation Tool

    • Job evaluations can provide an employee with motivation to do a good job in the future. Positive constructive criticism is always a good motivator.

    Distribution/Documentation

    • When a job evaluation, is complete the employee signs it and copies are distributed to his immediate supervisor. The human resource department also receives a copy as well as the employee. These evaluations can be used in the future for purposes of firing or promoting an individual. If a case should go to court, everything will be documented.

    Management Feedback

    • A job evaluation should give an employee an opportunity to respond and state her concerns or feelings about the evaluation. This is one way to improve things in the future for everyone involved.
