What Scalp Dandruff Looks Like

Dandruff is an annoying and occasionally painful condition caused by the skin on the scalp flaking and falling off. Dandruff can be caused by changes in the weather, by some haircare products and by failing to wash your hair regularly. Dandruff sometimes appears to have genetic factors. It is commonly treated by special shampoos.

    Flakes

  1. One of the hallmarks of dandruff is the appearance of small, white flakes of skin. These flakes can be greasy or itchy.
  2. Scales

  3. Another symptom of dandruff is an oily scalp, with white or gray scales.
  4. Location

  5. Dandruff may show up in small patches on the top of the head, or dandruff may cover the entire head.
  6. Spread

  7. Over time, dandruff may spread to other parts of the body, including the neck and shoulders.
  8. Other Signs

  9. People with dandruff commonly have areas of their scalp that get irritated and inflamed, because of excessive scratching.
