Visiting a real Mexican restaurant, purchasing a blanket from an open-air market and visiting Mayan ruins are all activities visitors to Mexico can find. Before you go, however, learn a few facts about this country.

    People

  1. Mexico was home to about 111 million people, according to the 2009 Central Intelligence Agency World Fact Book. Of these people, most are Spanish descendants, however, many come from Mayan or other native groups.
  2. Economy

  3. Travelers to Mexico will find the Mexican peso in use. Currency exchanges vary.
  4. Climate

  5. Because the country has regions that fall under two climate classifications, climates vary in Mexico. In the north, the average temperature is 60 degrees. The south sees averages of 80 degrees.
  6. What to Take

  7. Travelers should have a passport, enhanced driver's license or passport card to enter and exit Mexico. Visitors should also take a small English to Spanish dictionary, sunscreen, traveler's checks and comfortable shoes.
  8. Foods

  9. Mexican food is often characterized as being spicy. Both beans and corn are prevalent foods in Mexican cuisine.
  10. Getting Around Mexico

  11. Travel by car is much the same in Mexico as in the United States. Trains and buses are also available as forms of mass transportation.
