Purpose of a Polarizing Filter Lens

Polarizing filter lenses absorb sunlight to reduce its intensity. Polarizing lens are mostly used for photography purposes, but are important in sunglasses. They can reduce reflections, enhance colors, and can darken the sky.

Filters

There are two types of polarizing filters for the use of cameras; circular and linear. Depending on the camera type, these allow cameras to properly use polarizing lens. They are often used to change visual aspects.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses have polarized lens to reduce the effect of sunlight and glare on the snow or water. This also reduces the chance of eye damage from sunlight.

Reflections

Polarization reduces the effect of light on water and other surface areas that reflect, which produces clearer images.

Color Enhancement

Light can brighten surfaces too much, making the colors paler. By reducing the amount of glare shining off foliage, bodies of water and reflective surfaces, colors are enhanced.

Sky

Natural polarization occurs 90 degrees away from the sun. If you use polarization in a wide-angle shot (larger than 28mm), it will produce vivid light and dark differences. These can have dramatic effects in photographs.
