Serrapeptase is a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory enzyme that is commonly used for treatment of arthritis, to protect against stroke, heart disease and more. It is a viable alternative to ibuprofen and other over-the-counter medications. The Natural News Library refers to serrapeptase as the "miracle enzyme."

What is it?

Serrapeptase naturally occurs in the intestines of silkworms to break down cocoon walls. It is a proteolytic enzyme, which works to break down protein. It is processed commercially through fermentation of plant-grown enzymes suitable for vegetarians.

What foods contain serrapeptase?

While there are no foods that actually contain serrapeptase, doctors who recommend this enzyme suggest that people to stick to a mainly Mediterranean diet. Eat organic meats, fish and poultry. Beans, nuts, fruit and vegetables should also be incorporated. Whole foods and raw foods are the best.

How to take serrapeptase?

Serrapeptase should be taken on an empty stomach for maximum effectiveness. People should also avoid taking it with protein foods.

Serrapeptase supplements

This is the only way to incorporate serrapeptase into a diet. It does not naturally occur in foods.

Check with physician

The dosage of serrapeptase will depend on the specific need and end result. Check with a physician prior to adding serrapeptase as a dietary supplement.
