Symptoms of Numb Hands

Numbness in the hands can be a symptom of a more serious problem, like poor circulation or carpal tunnel syndrome. Talk to your doctor if you have any of these types of numbness in your hands for more than a few days.

Pins and Needles

A tingling in your hand like it has "fallen asleep" is a type of numbness, and can indicate that the hand isn't getting enough blood.

No Feeling

Sometimes the hand has no feeling at all, and there may be a tingling feeling as the sensation returns to the hand. Total numbness can be a symptom of nerve damage or insufficient blood supply.

Clumsiness

Although there is little or no pain or tingling, you might find your hand is suddenly clumsy and not good at fine motor activity. This can indicate nerve damage or other more serious problems.

Weakness

Your grip may be suddenly quite weak and you lack the strength to hold things tightly. Weak hands are associated with pregnancy, though they can also be a symptom of nerve or circulatory issues.

Coldness

A hand that feels stiff, numb and cold while the forearm is warm is a common symptom of carpal tunnel syndrome.
