- The Burberry label was started by Thomas Burberry, an Englishman. He began his career as a draper's apprentice in 1856.
- Burberry developed the first trench coat in 1914 for military officers in England. In 1880, he created a weather- and tear-proof fabric called gabardine. Burberry provided clothing for the Captain Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole in 1911.
- In 1955, Burberry was awarded its first Royal Warrant by Queen Elizabeth II. A second Royal Warrant was awarded to Burberry in 1989 by the Prince of Wales.
- Burberry has a foundation that invests in various charities that cater to the creative achievements of adolescents. Some of the company's charity partners are the Tower Hamlets Summer University, located in London, and the Changing Young Lives Foundation in Hong Kong.
- Not only does Burberry make purses but the company has developed an entire collection of fashion items. Burberry makes clothing, fragrances and shoes for the entire family. Burberry also makes jewelry and other small accessories, like wallets and belts.
