Skin Symptoms of Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects a variety of organ systems and parts of the body, including the skin. Even though some skin symptoms are common in all people, diabetics are affected more easily.

  1. Bacterial

    • Boils are infections of the hair follicles and are common in diabetics. Inflamed tissues are hot, swollen and red. Styes are infections on the eyelid. Infections settle around the nail as well.

    Fungal

    • Fungal infections are itchy rashes surrounded by tiny blisters. These rashes form in the folds of the skin.

    Itching

    • Itching skin can occur anywhere. Dry skin causes the itching as well as poor circulation.

    Dermopathy

    • Dermopathy are brown, scaly patches that are oval or round. They usually show up on the legs, do not itch and are not irritating.

    Blisters

    • Blisters are rare but do show up at times. They usually appear on the fingers, hands, feet or toes. They are painless and heal by themselves.
