The liver is a major organ in our bodies and is important for digestion and ridding our body of toxic substances. Eating foods to support liver function and avoiding foods that can harm your liver are both important steps in maintaining good overall health.

    Water

  1. Water is essential for all good organ function, including the liver. We need water to flush toxins filtered by the liver and kidneys.
  2. Organic Foods

  3. Organic foods grown without pesticides or other chemicals are good for the liver because they contain less toxins that the liver needs to filter out of the body.
  4. Cruciferous Vegetables

  5. Cruciferous vegetables, which are vegetables that are part of the cabbage family, are good for the liver because they contain important sulfites the liver needs to function properly. They are also high in vitamin C and folates.
  6. Onions and Garlic

  7. Onions and garlic contain a unique type of sulfur that is useful in liver function.
  8. Dandelion

  9. While there is little to no scientific evidence to support the health benefits for the liver of dandelion greens, roots and flowers, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence. Dandelions are rich in vitamin C.
  10. Foods to Avoid

  11. Avoiding alcohol, high-fat foods and salt will contribute to better overall liver health.
