What Is the Drug Uroxatral Used For?

Uroxatral is a prescription drug that is used to treat the symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate, such as the urge to urinate frequently. The drug works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder.

  1. Considerations

    • Uroxatral is usually taken orally once a day after eating a meal. The tablet should be taken whole, as crushing the tablet could reduce the effectiveness of the medication.

    • Uroxatral should be taken at the same time each day. Follow your doctor's instructions for use.

    Side Effects

    • Side effects could include headaches, dizziness or changes in sexual desire. Contact your physician if these side effects persist. More serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include severe abdominal pain, dark urine and yellowing of the eyes and skin.

    • Before taking Uroxatral, tell your doctor if you have any allergies to beta blockers or have kidney, heart or liver problems.

    • Contact your physician immediately if you have an erection lasting for more than four hours after taking Uroxatral.
