MP3 Vs. WAV
MP3 files and WAV files are often confused as they both are capable of playing sound, but there are several differences.
-
Sound Differences
-
WAV files are mostly pure sound recordings taken directly from the source. MP3 files are usually converted from WAV files.
File Differences
-
Because WAV files are pure audio recordings, they are often massive in size. MP3 files on the other hand are compressed files and therefore take much less space.
-
Loss of Sound
-
WAV files, being pure recordings, have no loss to their sound. MP3 files lose some sound because of the compression process.
Playability
-
Most MP3 players are capable of playing WAV or MP3 files but might take longer to work with a WAV File.
Portability
-
Because of the size of the files, MP3 files are often preferred in digital audio players over WAV files.
