Define Virtual Office
Virtual office has been defined as a dream that only a few ever achieve. But the truth is a virtual office is not a dream. That which defines a standard office is nothing more than its location and the people who work there. A virtual office on the other hand is defined by its lack of location.
-
What is it exactly?
-
The difference between a virtual office and any other office is an address. A virtual office has no true address. It is, in the simplest of terms, a computer with Internet access and a cell phone. With a virtual office, it doesn't matter if you are at home, on an airplane, or somewhere in the Atlantic. If you have a computer and an Internet connection you have an office. A virtual office lacks only the continuity of the day-to-day office environment.
What about office equipment?
-
The standard office equipment, fax, printer, mailbox, all can be found in one location or another. Mailboxes can be forwarded to wherever you hang your hat that week. Printers are everywhere. Fax machines are available in many public locations as well as on your computer.
-
Can anyone have a virtual office?
-
Not everyone should work virtually, but everyone can. It's a Catch-22 if you will. There are some jobs that just work best in person. Blue collar workers for instance use a computer rarely in their day-to-day work environment, which makes it impractical for them to work virtually. Doctors, lawyers, and other white collar workers would similarly find it impractical to work virtually 100 percent of the time.
Are there any laws for virtual offices?
-
The laws for virtual offices are non-existent. There are housing regulations for home offices, OSHA regulations for standard offices, but nothing written to date pertaining to virtual offices. If you are concerned about a legal aspect for your own virtual office, you can consult with a legal expert in your area.
Why the cell phone?
-
As with any office you need a way for people to reach you. If you travel a lot or just like to change up your location, a cell phone is your simplest option. There are other options available, so a cell phone is not a requirement. But the cell phone does allow for more mobility and less hassle for callers.
