LCD Vs. Plasma HD TV

When you enter an electronics retailer to buy a high-definition TV (HDTV), you face a bewildering array of features and technologies. They all display excellent pictures, offer many ports for your TV cable and games, and broadcast excellent sound to home theaters. You have to dig deeper to narrow your choices down, especially between LCD and plasma.

  1. Description

    • LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and plasma TVs both have large, thin screens and display pictures in the highest 1080p resolution.

    Rooms

    • LCD pictures are bright enough to appear under normal room light levels. Plasmas require a dark room for the best image quality.

    Viewing

    • Plasma sets have a wider viewing angle. For the best picture quality on an LCD, you need to sit almost directly in front of the screen.

    Motion blur

    • LCDs can suffer from motion blur, in which fast action appears slightly unfocused and pixilated. Fast movement on a plasma remains clear.

    Burn in

    • Plasma sets can suffer from burn in, in which a graphic that stays in one place for a long time leaves a permanent ghostly image on the screen. LCDs do not have this problem.
