What Are the Different Parts in a Computer?

A computer is a collection of components that work together and are housed in the case. The physical parts of the computer are collectively known as hardware.

  1. Central Processing Unit

    • Also known as the CPU, the central processing unit is similar to the human brain in that all calculations performed by the computer go through the CPU. The more powerful the CPU the faster the computer will run.

    RAM

    • Random access memory helps the central processing unit by providing storage for information that is being used. When the computer is turned off, any information stored in the RAM is lost.

    Hard Drive

    • The hard drive is the component that permanently stores data. The hard drive is made of magnetic platters.

    Video Card

    • The video card helps the computer process images and is inserted into the PCI or AGP slot. The more memory in the video card the faster it will be able to process images.

    Sound Card and Speakers

    • The sound card affects the quality of sound signal that is amplified by the speakers. The best speakers use Dolby surround sound, which allows you to hear three dimensions even if you have only two speakers.
