What is Nonfat Yogurt?

Nonfat yogurt is similar to regular yogurt, but is made with nonfat milk instead of whole or reduced fat milk. Because of its nutritional value, nonfat yogurt is a heathy option for a snack. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Ingredients

    • Nonfat yogurt is made with nonfat (or skim) milk combined with a cream containing the bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. Sweetener, coloring and flavoring may also be added.

    • According to the National Yogurt Association, nonfat yogurt contains less than 0.5 grams of fat.

    • Nonfat milk is loaded with calcium, protein, vitamins and minerals.

    Active cultures

    • Experts believe choosing nonfat yogurt with live, active cultures maintains digestive health and regularity. For a yogurt to obtain the National Yogurt Association's seal for "Live & Active Cultures," it must contain 100 million bacteria for each gram of yogurt.

    Dieting

    • A University of Washington study suggests that eating yogurt helps you feel full longer and keeps you from feeling hungry.
