How to Write CV Format
In an academic job search, tailoring your curriculum vitae to a specific audience is a must. Besides your contact information, some information headings are standard, with slight variations depending on where you are in your academic career.

Start with the most recent degree and work backward. Provide details: type of degree, field, college, city and year completed. Include your dissertation title and the names of your directors and readers. Repeat for all degrees.
Experience

Begin with the most recent academic work experience and work backward. Include classroom teaching assignments, writing and research assistantships and administrative assistance. Use a separate heading called Other Work Experience for jobs relevant to your field but outside of college.

Honors and Grants

Mention honors when relevant to your credentials and there are many. Assistantships and fellowships are honors. For grants, name the research and travel funding you have received, the year and dollar amount of the award and who provided the grant.
Presentations and Publications

Include conferences where you have presented research papers, as opposed to those merely attended. Publications include all academic journals that have accepted and published your research and book chapters. Refereed academic journal articles should have their own heading.
Service and Professional Development

Identify committee work, conference assignments and other titled posts. For conferences and workshops, include the title of the conference, the city and state, the guest speaker and a brief description of what was covered. Save programs in a file folder.
References

Name as references the people who will be writing your recommendation letters. Usually this is three to five people, depending on the college to which you are applying. Provide their names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses.
